WE’RE SO GLAD YOU WILL BE STAYING WITH US
Please feel free to review the following information regarding guides to Atami and surrounding areas, identification requirements, and travel to and from Atami
IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR VISITORS TO JAPAN
We would like to share information about identification collection for guests staying in lodging in Japan. As per Japanese law under the Private Lodging Business Act, we are required to collect identification information. This includes:
Every guest’s name, nationality, and passport number
We are also required to keep a copy of one guest's passport as a record
We will use either the secure Airbnb messaging system or a secure external form (via Cognito forms)- it is your choice which to use.
You can preview the form here. We will send out the form a few weeks before you arrive, along with the arrival information.
You can read more about identification requirements on Airbnb or the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare site or the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism site.
In brief summary: in Japan, ALL lodging (large and small hotels, inns, Airbnbs, etc) follow the same laws and permitting structure, and so every accommodation is required to collect this information (regardless of size or booking platform used). If you are not a resident of Japan, you will be asked for your passport at every accommodation.
If you are unwilling to comply with this request, we sincerely apologize that we will not be able to accept your booking. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.
TRAVEL TO AND FROM ATAMI
Atami Station is served by the Tokaido Shinkansen, the Odoriko Line, and the Tokaido Line.
We find that Google Maps offers excellent directions and multiple options for getting to Atami.
From Tokyo Station or Shinagawa Station to Atami Station, there are two Tokaido Shinkansen per hour (35-55 minutes).
From Shin Osaka Station and Kyoto Station, about once per hour there are direct Shinkansen that stop in Atami (2-3 hours).
All Shinkansen and Odoriko require a special ticket, which can be purchased at most JR stations. Both non-reserved seats and reserved seats are available (during some busy travel seasons all seats might be reservation only).
Sample trip from Tokyo:
Shinkansen to Atami: 35-45 minutes, approximately ¥4000
Taxi to House: 10 minutes, approximately ¥1400
