Built in 1968, this mid‑century Japanese home has been looked after for more than half a century — first by the craftsmen who made it, then by the people who lived here, and now, by us.
Our renovation kept the good bones and added what felt right: a karaoke snack room, Takashi Murakami prints, Tajimi tiles, and a few moments of fun while keeping the original mid-century carpentry.
There’s a Towada‑stone and hinoki bath. A stretch of sunny engawa. A dining room that keeps its own rhythm. A kitchen built for actual cooking. Tatami rooms that tend to hold the light in a way that slows the day down.
Guests have called it “magazine,” “flawless,” and a “labor of love.” We don’t disagree. The house has a way of making itself known.
“This was truly the most perfect stay -gorgeous home, perfect host, beautiful scenery.”
“The house is a rare gem, amenities of a modern home within the architecture of a traditional Japanese house and impeccable design styling. I found something unique and interesting within the house with each new exploration.”
“Hillary and Blake's villa is the most special place me and my partner have ever stayed in, and we are avid travellers. The gorgeous pictures don't lie.”
